Relief Efforts in Zambia

CARE began working in Zambia in 1992 in response to severe regional drought and extreme poverty in the region. Today’s focus is on long-term community-based development programs, working in both rural and marginal peri-urban areas.

CARE Zambia has two niche areas with the overall goal of empowering women and girls, who bear the brunt of poverty and crisis: maternal and child nutrition and social protection.

CARE Zambia is committed to gender equality, greater and more meaningful participation of people living with HIV and AIDS, and a pro-poor, anti-poverty stance in its interaction with communities and policymakers alike.
