CARE USA Board Elects New Leadership and Welcomes Three New Members

Atlanta GA, July 24, 2023CARE USA announced today that Richard Stengel and Susan Hassan have been elected as Co-Chairs of the CARE USA Board of Directors; while Radhika Jones, Editor in Chief of Vanity Fair, will continue in her role as Vice Chair of the humanitarian organization’s Board.

Richard Stengel is the former Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs in the Obama administration. Prior to serving in government, Stengel was the Editor of TIME for seven years and the president and CEO of the National Constitution Center. He is also a bestselling author and a political analyst for MSNBC.

Susan Hassan is an investor in and strategic advisor to innovative early stage and growth companies. Hassan was formerly a partner at Valor Equity Partners, a growth equity firm with nearly $5 billion under management. At Valor, she focused on tech-enabled growth companies in multiple industries. Prior to joining Valor, Hassan was a mergers and acquisitions partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP for over a decade.

The Board also elected three new board members: David MacLennan, former CEO of Cargill; Titi Cole, CEO of Legacy Franchises at Citi; and Scott Budnick, film producer and advocate. The new board members’ deep experience and leadership will broaden CARE’s global impact at a time of increased humanitarian and development needs across the world.

Outgoing Chair Glenn Hutchins who has led CARE USA’s Board since 2019, will continue to provide leadership and counsel to CARE USA as the newly appointed Chair of the Executive Committee and the new CARE Global Council. In his time as Chair, Hutchins helped guide the organization through a significant period of growth, responding to some of the greatest humanitarian challenges since CARE’s founding, and relaunching the CARE Package® as part of organization’s 75th anniversary.
