WASHINGTON, Oct. 18, 2018 — CARE, the global humanitarian and development organization, strongly opposes any effort to cancel humanitarian assistance for political reasons.

Michelle Nunn, CARE President and CEO, said:

“Life-saving humanitarian assistance has never been, and should never be, used as political leverage. U.S. foreign assistance supports global peace, security, and development, and provides humanitarian relief during times of crisis. It is both the right thing to do and the smart thing to do. And it should not be used for political purposes.”
