Chef Carla Hall visited Mozambique with CARE in 2015, where she met several women struggling to feed their families due to climate change and other issues. Among them was Azaliha Amisse, who says, “Recently it’s gotten harder to get food from the ocean. We have to travel very far to find it.”
“I know how important it is for a woman to feel like she has power within her family.”
The women showed Hall their efforts to build sustainable food systems within their community.
“I know how important it is for a woman to feel like she has power within her family. Women and children comprise the majority of chronically hungry. When you empower her, you feed her spirit, you feed her family, you feed her community, and you feed her nation.”
