This is the only IPCC report to be published before COP26 in Glasgow.

On Thursday, the humanitarian aid group CARE International released a separate analysis of climate finance plans by developed countries, calling them largely “hollow commitments.” The report found that “developed countries are not on track” to deliver the promised $100 billion annually, and many wealthy nations have yet to detail how they will ramp up such support.

The World: Luxembourg takes the lead on climate finance

Luxembourg — the small country nestled between Belgium, France and Germany — is making big changes to center itself as a global leader in green finance. While it’s smaller than Rhode Island and has fewer than 700,000 residents, it has the highest per capita carbon dioxide emissions in Europe. Now, as an international hub for banking, finance and investment funds, it’s focused on funneling money toward investments that help poorer countries build green energy and deal with the impacts of climate change.

TIME: The G7 Want to Save the World from Climate Change. But Are They Willing to Pay for It?

A June report by Danish charity Care International found that only three countries—the U.K., New Zealand and Luxembourg—have announced plans to increase their spend, meaning international climate finance would increase by just $1.6 billion in 2021 and 2022. It called on G7 countries to double their international finance by 2025.

CARE is concerned for the safety and well being of thousands of Rohingya refugees who are in the middle of a strict week-long lock down after an alarming spread of COVID cases was detected in recent days. Social distancing is incredibly difficult in the camps as refugees share water, sanitation and other facilities and live in close proximity to one another. We fear that any new COVID cases could spread very quickly.

Counting the Costs: Cyclone Amphan One Year On

May 18, 2021

On May 20, 2020, devastating Cyclone Amphan made landfall on Jammu island near West Bengal, Bangladesh, with wind speeds of approximately 140 km/hour. The cyclone affected 10 million people from 19 coastal districts in Bangladesh, of which nine were severely impacted. The Government undertook a massive evacuation of 2.4 million people in 12,078 cyclone shelters, and 26 people died.

[Bogotá, Colombia, 3 May 2021] Guatemala and Honduras live day by day with the severe consequences that the passage of tropical storms Eta and Iota left behind. The two tropical storms have devastated the lives of more than seven million people, who now prepare to face a new hurricane season. Large numbers of affected communities continue to face water and sanitation problems, destroyed homes, lack of access to food, and unreconstructed land routes.
