“The people of Sudan are facing the possibility of an irreversible humanitarian disaster in the coming days. With more than 11 million people across the country – prior to the current crisis – barely able to meet the minimum food requirements, the recent violence is exacerbating an already dire situation for civilians, especially women and girls. Reports of the near collapse of health services, lack of access to food and basic necessities, indiscriminate looting, incidences of gender-based violence, and increased numbers of displaced – compounded by an inability to deliver lifesaving aid – all point to a future of longer-term suffering for the people of Sudan if the conflict continues. We again call for an immediate cessation to the violence. Civilians must be allowed access to food, water, health and basic services; humanitarian deliveries to impacted areas must continue unhindered, and all efforts must be made to stop the indiscriminate targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure.”
