CARE Responds to Cyclone Eloise in Mozambique, Early Assessments Show Disaster Preparedness Paid Off

Maputo, Mozambique 27 January 2021 – Cyclone Eloise hit Central East Mozambique on Saturday 23 January affecting some 250,000, damaging over 17,000 houses and displacing families, and leaving at least 7 people dead. While figures are still likely to rise, early response measures by NGOs, local organisations and government have helped to prevent more widescale destruction and loss of life.

CARE Statement on Foreign Terrorist Designation in Yemen

CARE is extremely concerned that a group terrorist designation of the de facto authorities in northern Yemen will have devastating consequences for millions of people in need of urgent humanitarian support. At least 70% of the population lives in northern Yemen, where the highest needs exist due to ongoing conflict, including 47,000 people who are likely to experience catastrophic levels of food insecurity in 2021 according to recent data.
