Humanitarian group launches e-catalog, holds Donor Appreciation Telethon, and more to celebrate national day of giving
ATLANTA – CARE, one of the world’s leading humanitarian organizations, is encouraging Americans to join the celebration of Giving Tuesday with a digital catalog of poverty-fighting gifts, a donor appreciation telethon and a host of other ways to participate in the annual day of giving.
Giving Tuesday, or the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, is set aside to encourage charitable giving during the holiday season. In its first three years, Giving Tuesday is well on its way to becoming an American tradition, just as Black Friday and Cyber Monday kick off the holiday shopping season.
This year, CARE is giving thanks to its supporters with a special Donor Appreciation Telethon — staff will gather together in a phone bank at its Atlanta headquarters — as well as providing new and innovative ways for others to give to CARE.
“While thanking current donors for their support we also want to provide new ways to join in on Giving Tuesday and support CARE ‘s mission” says Dr. Helene D. Gayle, CARE’s president and chief executive officer. “We want to recognize the generous donations of those that have already supported and we hope to inspire others to help the world’s poorest communities lift themselves out of poverty.”
CARE is making giving with a purpose easy with its new “Gifts of Lasting Change” e-catalog. Using a website, shoppers can choose from close to 200 ways to fill a symbolic CARE Package to help communities around the world where CARE works.
Because each gift represents a small piece of CARE’s enormous body of poverty-fighting work across 87 countries, shoppers will be sure to find the right gift for anyone’s budget or interest.
Shoppers can choose a gift based on their relationship to the recipient or their special interests. The gifts are representative of what CARE does to support the fight against poverty.
To help deliver the most effective solutions to the greatest number of people, the gift or donation will be combined with other funds and used where most needed, not necessarily to purchase the actual gift item in the catalog.
In a special promotion, e-catalog shoppers can also receive a free CARE calendar with uplifting photography of CARE’s work throughout the world. See the CARE gifts catalog website, gifts.care.org for more details.
In addition to the e-catalog, other ways to celebrate Giving Tuesday with CARE include:
- H&M Partnership: CARE is a beneficiary of H&M’s 2014 holiday campaign. Funds from the promotion, which runs from Nov. 13 to Dec. 31, will advance CARE’s work to empower women entrepreneurs and workers from low-income, urban communities in Ethiopia. From Nov. 13 to Dec. 31, H&M will sell special gift labels in stores worldwide. For every set of holiday gift labels sold, the H&M Conscious Foundation will donate double the sale price to CARE.
- Amazon Smile: When shoppers choose CARE as their Amazon Smile charity, Amazon will automatically donate to CARE when shopping, at no extra cost. Learn more here.
- Join My Village – Join My Village is a charitable partnership between CARE, Merck and General Mills that uses social media to enable people anywhere to learn about and help advance programs that expand girls’ access to education in Africa and India. On Giving Tuesday, any donation made at www.joinmyvillage.com will be double matched, so that each $10 donation will be turned into $30.
- Teavana: Teavana has worked in partnership with CARE for more than 7 years. With the purchase of a CARE branded gift box or Tumbler, Teavana will donate a small portion to CARE.
- A Path Appears: Pulitzer Prize-winning authors Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn’s latest book, A Path Appears: Transforming Lives, Creating Opportunity, offers a sweeping narrative about making a difference here and abroad. CARE is highlighted as a way to give back; a CARE micro savings program in Malawi is also featured.
About CARE:
Founded in 1945 with the creation of the CARE Package®, CARE is a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty. CARE places special focus on working alongside poor girls and women because, equipped with the proper resources, they have the power to lift whole families and entire communities out of poverty. Our six decades of experience show that when you empower a girl or woman, she becomes a catalyst, creating ripples of positive change that lift up everyone around her. That’s why girls and women are at the heart of CARE’s community-based efforts to improve education, health, and economic opportunity for everyone. We also work with girls and women to promote social justice, respond to emergencies and confront hunger and climate change. Last year CARE worked in 87 countries and reached more than 97 million people around the world. To learn more, visit care.org.
