(March 4, 2021 – Atlanta, GA) – CARE USA is excited to announce Deepmala Mahla as the Vice President of Humanitarian Affairs after serving in an interim capacity for the past three months.
Deepmala joined CARE as a Regional Director for the Asia region in December 2018. Over the course of her decades-long career in the humanitarian and international development sector, Deepmala has led wide-ranging humanitarian response coordination efforts. She has served as a strategic leader in the context of organizations such as CARE, Mercy Corps, Marie Stopes International, Oxfam, International Centre for Research on Women, and others, driving the development and implementation of sustainable and transformative strategies.

As Vice President for Humanitarian Affairs, Deepmala will lead CARE USA’s emergency and humanitarian global operations. She will represent CARE USA within the CARE International Confederation, as well as externally on all issues related to disaster relief and humanitarian policy and advocacy.
Prior to returning to CARE, Deepmala served as Country Director for South Sudan and Iraq at Mercy Corps, and previously, held Country Director, Deputy Country Director and specialist roles across other countries in the Middle East, Asia and East Africa.
