(Washington, D.C. March 3, 2022) – Today the White House transmitted a formal emergency supplemental funding request to Congress addressing, in part, the critical funding needs to fulfill The Biden Administration’s goal to vaccinate the world. This request comes after over 80 CEOs of global health, hunger, and humanitarian organizations, including CARE CEO, Michelle Nunn, urged the White House to submit such a request, and the day after President Biden emphasized this commitment in his State of the Union.
Today, CARE CEO Nunn said:
“Thank you, President Biden, for recognizing that COVID-19 knows no borders and, until we help to vaccinate the world, we remain at risk here at home. Previous US Government resources for the global COVID-19 response were catalytic but are now all but expended. Without additional, dedicated investments particularly in delivery and in frontline healthcare workers, we risk the vaccines we have procured expiring in country capitals before they can reach those in need. Now our eyes turn toward Congress to ensure that any emergency supplemental funding represents the true need, founded in data, to deliver vaccines from tarmac to arm. I urge Congress to pass an emergency supplemental funding package immediately that reflects the true need.”
