From Sheba Crocker, CARE USA’s Vice President for Humanitarian Programs & Policy:
The comments made last night by Secretary Pompeo and Secretary Mattis are strong statements that this conflict must end. As a humanitarian organization, CARE is working hard to stave off starvation, cholera outbreaks and the worst effects of a collapsing economy and a country suffering under the burden of war.
CARE urges all parties to the conflict to take immediate action to improve the humanitarian situation in Yemen, including allowing for increased access to vulnerable populations, opening the airport in Sana’a, making credit available to facilitate imports and paying civil servant salaries that have gone unpaid for more than two years.
Urgent action is needed right now to end the suffering of unthinkable millions of people. This human tragedy must come to an immediate end.
