July 10, 2024 — At a recent convening in Houston, Texas, CARE announced the expansion of its CARE Partner Network, an ecosystem of community-based and national organizations working collaboratively to provide critical aid during times of crisis to the most vulnerable and often overlooked populations in the United States. This includes BIPOC communities, as well as women, and young girls. The Network, through which CARE provides funding for cash assistance and other emergency relief, is vital to ensuring that disaster response is effective and coordinated, leading to more resilient communities.
The CARE Partner Network now boasts 18 partners in total — including eight announced last year, as well as Save the Children who joined the Network last month. This expanded partnership will help strengthen CARE’s disaster response capacity in the United States.
“CARE’s ability to respond to emergencies quickly and reach the most vulnerable is only possible through collaboration with local and national partners,” said Amir Farokhi, CARE’s Executive Director of US Programs. We are thrilled at the growth of our partner network and at our partners’ shared enthusiasm. Their expertise and networks ensure we can reach those most in need after a crisis.”
The new partners were announced at the 2nd annual CARE Partner Network convening in Houston, Texas. The three-day event, held from June 24-27, brought together experts, stakeholders, and partners to exchange knowledge, best practices, and strategies for managing crisis situations quickly and effectively.
Key highlights of this year’s convening included:
- CARE Emergency Preparedness Grant Opportunities: CARE will award 10 network partners with an emergency preparedness grant to support capacity building for emergency relief. Funds will be used on equipment, services and in-kind goods that will support communities during disasters.
- Live Power Panel Speaker Series: Featured insightful discussions from our partners, including the St. Bernard Project.
- Emergency Preparedness Interactive Session: A hands-on session designed to equip attendees with practical skills and knowledge for crisis response.
- Mock Hurricane Tabletop Exercise: An immersive exercise simulating hurricane response, fostering collaborative problem-solving and strategy development.
- Previous Response Case Studies: In-depth analyses of past response efforts, highlighting successes and lessons learned to improve future initiatives.
- Networking Opportunities: Facilitated connections between partners, experts, and stakeholders to build stronger, more resilient communities.
This announcement comes in advance of the peak of hurricane season. CARE looks forward to working with our partners to provide support to those most in need. After Hurricane Beryl made landfall on the Texas coast on July 8, CARE reached out to its partners in Houston to offer their support.
