“CARE is disheartened by the Biden administration’s announcement that the 15,000-refugee admissions cap placed by the previous administration would not be overturned in a timely manner.
Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, the world was facing the highest levels of forced displacement in a generation. The ongoing pandemic has only served to exacerbate and deepen the drivers of displacement and the hardships people must endure as they are uprooted from their homes in search of safety, aid, and opportunity.
America’s moral leadership and its historic and principled role as a refuge for the world’s most vulnerable are urgently needed. We urge the administration to reconsider its position and immediately increase the cap to at least 62,500 as previously announced. Any further delay places additional lives in the balance.” – Michelle Nunn, President and CEO of CARE USA
