CARE and Cargill’s partnership of more than fifty years is a testament to the values we share. Over the past eight years, this partnership has helped improve the lives of more than 300,000 people around the world. With Cargill’s support, CARE engages communities to promote food and nutrition security and climate change resilience while advance sustainable agricultural practices through a new three-year phase of programming. PROSPER: Promoting a Sustainable and Food Secure World, amplifies the success of eight years of previous programming and explores new opportunities to build a sustainable and food secure world. The program engages communities in key areas to foster gender equitable food security and nutrition by building the capacities of marginalized populations to prosper in constantly changing environments rather than exhausting resources to recover from unexpected shocks.
CARE supports PROSPER beneficiaries to reach four key objectives:
- Increase equitable access to nutritious food and income;
- Increase capacities and assets to manage climate change related shocks and stresses;
- Strengthen inclusive governance; and
- Improve nutrition behaviors & educational performance.
In geographies where we have established a strong partnership, including Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Central America and Egypt, we are using proven approaches to multiply our impact while expanding our partnership model in new geographies including Indonesia and Costa Rica. PROSPER’s approach to improving food security and resilience includes increasing access to economic and financial resources, technology, climate change information and conservation agriculture skills, as well as by improving existing infrastructure, social and governmental institutions, and promoting gender equity through equal availability and distribution of resources. Building these capacities, anticipatory, absorptive, and adaptive, is essential in promoting resilient, food-secure livelihoods. In this phase we plan to take our program approaches to scale by engaging governments, civil society actors, and private-sector partners. The partnership aims to reach 1 million people by 2020.
