Relief Efforts in Indonesia
CARE International is a global confederation of 20 member organizations – Australia, Austria, Canada, Caucasus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Luxembourg, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Sri Lanka, Thailand, United Kingdom, and United States – working together to end poverty.
CARE has worked in Indonesia since 1967, initially in food distribution, small infrastructure projects, health, environment, water and sanitation.
In the wake of a series of shocks in the late 1990s, we redirected our focus towards emergency programming.
When the 2004 tsunami hit, we were one of the first international aid agencies to respond, providing people with desperately needed food, water and shelter.
Today our work in Indonesia focuses on disaster risk reduction and emergency response, natural resource management, and responding to climate change, health, and livelihoods. We also work on child rights and support at-risk youth.
