Ian Vale serves as CARE’s Chief Impact Officer. He has twenty-five years’ experience as a senior leader and specialist in the humanitarian and development sectors. Prior to joining CARE, he was Save the Children’s East and Southern Africa Regional Director. While at Save the Children he led the development of the organization’s global strategy, focussing on measurable impact and locally led transformation.
Ian has a proven track record of improving organizational, operations, and team performance.
Before joining Save the Children, he managed humanitarian programs with International Medical Corps (IMC) in Kosovo, Sierra Leone, and East Africa in Operations and Senior Management roles. He also worked in their head office in the U.S. as Deputy Director of Operations and established IMC UK in London. Subsequently, Ian achieved a Masters in Change Agent Skills and Strategies and trained as a coach and facilitator. He worked as a management consultant with the Management Centre in London and the Poverty Eradication Network (PEN) in Kenya, specializing in strategy, leadership and change with civil society and international NGOs.
Ian bas a bachelor’s degree from Aberystwyth University and a master’s degree from the University of Surry. He is based in Nairobi, Kenya.
