For 75 years, CARE has led the way to a better life for millions of people in need around the world. Founded at the end of World War II, our original CARE Package provided a way to help war survivors facing starvation — but the COVID-19 pandemic is wiping out decades of progress in the fight against poverty and injustice.

To help build a more resilient and inclusive post-COVID world, we are proud to introduce the Bay Area Committee for CARE — a diverse network of local volunteer leaders dedicated to advancing the rights and dignity of the most vulnerable populations.

As a leading humanitarian organization, CARE serves as a vital link between American generosity and millions of vulnerable families globally. In the Bay Area, CARE is providing COVID-19 relief by reintroducing the CARE Package, providing food, relief and jobs to members of our community who need it most.

Bay Area Committee Goals

  • Raise awareness of CARE’s mission to defeat poverty and achieve social justice, particularly amplifying our message and mandate to invest in women and girls.
  • Inspire Bay Area leaders to advocate and take action on issues CARE addresses— such as humanitarian and emergency response, food and nutrition, maternal and child health, and financial inclusion — to drive demonstrable impact.
  • Fundraise to generate critical resources, particularly the flexible, unrestricted capital that strengthens CARE’s programmatic work

Member Responsibilities

  • Participate in quarterly Committee meetings and CARE events as needed and to the best of one’s availability. These gatherings enhance the ability to represent and communicate the mission and achievements of CARE.
  • Be willing to lend expertise and provide guidance to CARE leadership.
  • Actively leverage personal networks to support organizational priorities and goals. Introduce CARE to potential partners and contributors who can help to further the mission and advance its work.
  • Give and/or get a substantial annual contribution that establishes CARE as a top charitable contribution for you personally.

Time Commitments

  • Members serve as volunteer leaders for a two-year renewable term.
  • Expected time commitment: 1-2 hours per month, possibly more based on volunteer projects.
