CARE International is a global confederation of 15 member organizations – Austria, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Thailand, United Kingdom, and United States – working together to end poverty.

After World War II, Austria was in ruins and people were starving. CARE sent more than 1 million CARE Packages to families across the country. Forty years later, Austria was one of the richest countries in the world and was able to provide aid to other countries in need. In 1986, CARE Austria was founded as the eighth member of the CARE International confederation. Each year, CARE Austria supports dozens of poverty-fighting programs around the world.
