Statement by Michelle Nunn, President and CEO of CARE:
May 15, 2024 – Last week, the Biden Administration’s NSM-20 report said Israel is not impeding the provision of aid to Gaza – yet it also highlighted what CARE & other humanitarian organizations have been seeing and raising up since October: denied entry of goods; restricted movements of goods and humanitarian personnel; inadequate steps to protect humanitarian workers. By any count, the death and suffering in Gaza is beyond inhumane. Tens of thousands of Palestinians are dead. Thousands more are wounded and facing starvation. Volunteers, humanitarian workers, aid deliveries are under continued attack. The Rafah crossing is closed. What will it take for the world to stand up for humanity? This agony is entirely man-made and can and must end. We cannot ignore the realities.
