WASHINGTON — CARE, the global humanitarian and development organization, welcomes House passage today of the Global Food Security Reauthorization Act (GFSA) of 2017, which steps up U.S. support for the more than 800 million people around the world who suffer from chronic hunger and malnutrition. The Senate already passed the bill, which now goes to the president’s desk to be signed into law.
David Ray, CARE USA VP of Policy and Advocacy, said: “Far too many people around the world go to bed hungry every night. This landmark bill, should it become law, would be a major step towards reducing hunger and malnutrition for millions of people. We are grateful for the bipartisan leadership on this bill and thank the sponsors and cosponsors for extending GFSA for five years, which will provide stability and boost effectiveness for the programs and strategy. CARE urges the President now to sign the bill into law.”
