October 17, 2023 — Reports of hundreds killed as a result of an explosion at a Gaza City hospital are terrifying. The protection of wounded civilians, humanitarian workers, medical workers, and medical facilities is non-negotiable under humanitarian law, and a moral obligation. This moment must serve as an inflection point to prevent further loss of life and collateral damage. Thousands have already died, and hundreds are dying by the day. There must be a pause in the escalating violence that allows for humanitarian access to civilians and the evacuation of those in need of urgent medical care. Without this, the many tragedies we have seen throughout the course of this crisis will grow exponentially with thousands more dying.
