Wellington Pak and Kim Brearley join CARE USA Women’s Economic Justice (WEJ) team, furthering its mission to help women save, earn and invest.
ATLANTA, JULY 18, 2023— CARE USA, a non-profit humanitarian organization, is pleased to announce the addition of Wellington Pak and Kim Brearley to its Women’s Economic Justice (WEJ) leadership team. These accomplished executives, both with leadership and innovation experience in the private and public sectors, will help strengthen CARE USA’s capacity to advance gender equality and foster sustainable economic growth for women.
Wellington Pak joins CARE USA as the CEO of CARE Social Ventures (CSV). In this role, Pak is responsible for defining the long-term vision of CSV and growing its portfolio of businesses, which bridges the gap between philanthropy and commerce to fund local, sustainable businesses to provide jobs and income to those in need. CSV aims to be a premier impact incubator in the industry, focused on accelerating investable pre-seed and seed-stage start-ups aligned to CARE’s focus areas of health, hunger, climate and financial inclusion.
With more than 25 years of corporate strategy and growth experience, Pak most recently served as CEO of FHI Ventures, an impact venture capital firm and accelerator that invests in companies with innovative products and services that advance progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Kim Brearley is Managing Director of CARE Impact Partners (CIP). Overseeing the CIP team, Brearley is responsible for guiding the strategic direction of CARE’s advisory business, driving innovation and growth, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to the companies CARE serves. CIP helps organizations adopt a risk-smart approach to securing resilient and reputable supply chains while supporting the people within them to earn living incomes and live prosperous, equitable lives.
Before arriving at CARE, Brearley spent six years as the CFO for THINKMD, a company that develops digital health solutions aimed at improving healthcare access and outcomes, particularly in low-resource settings. She brings more than 15 years of financial experience to CARE, earning her master’s in development economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and most recently completing the Oxford Impact Investing Program at the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School in 2020.

With the goal of improving economic access for more than 50 million women by 2030, CARE’s Women’s Economic Justice group—formerly named Market-Based Solutions—includes five programs: Village Savings and Loan (VSLA), Women’s Entrepreneurship, CARE Impact Partners, CARE Social Ventures, and CARE Enterprises. Strategically focused on developing evidence-based programs, the team has also added key resources to understand better and measure the impact of each WEJ program.

In the past five years, WEJ has expanded its program scope and more than tripled its impact and investments from donors. During this time, WEJ’s sector rank rose from #18 to #3, as per a comparison of revenues from market-based approaches amongst multi-sector international non-profits.
