History.com, the web site of the History Channel, posted a story about the first CARE packages sent to WWII refugees in Europe. The story featured an interview with Renate Senter, an original CARE Package recipient, who described vivid memories of her family’s first CARE package. “It was maroon red with white ‘CARE’ letters on it. I opened it, and the first thing that hit me was this beautiful white paper that felt like silk, a pencil with an eraser, Colgate toothpaste and a toothbrush,” Senter says. Read the story here.
