Education is Important Preparation for the Long Run in Life
Written By: Madalitso Banda
Since 2009, Join My Village in Malawi has reached more than 18,000 adolescent girls, and more than 1,000 of them have received scholarships which include school fees, school uniforms, spending money for essential items, and school books. An additional 22 young women are attending college thanks to Join My Village scholarships.
Join My Village, a program of CARE, helps young women in rural Malawi to access secondary education. The girls gain academic and life skills and receive the necessary resources to improve their growing minds. Join My Village has constructed libraries, donated reference books, school blocks, dormitories and sanitation facilities to allow girls of Malawi to reach their full potential.
Because Join My Village students are able to further their education, their dreams are closer to becoming a reality. Two students, 13-year-old Anastasia Phiri and 16-year-old Zion Amos from the Kasungu District, dream of becoming nurses. Their education has empowered them to become smart and independent women and they both want to make their parents proud by achieving in their classes and future careers.
